🎨🖌️🫟 THE ART SPACE RESIDENCY 🎨🖌️🫟 Come for one day of creation, a couple of days or the whole package! Thirteen days. Nine artists. One house in the Alentejo, and everything made in it stays on the walls From 15 to 27 August, the Art Space Hotel becomes a place where something is created every single day. A different artist arrives each morning and leads a workshop in their own craft: artstone, a collective painting which will be the table cloth, collage, cork and wood, driftwood, meditative drawing, movement. You do not book the whole two weeks. You book the days that call you, one at a time. No experience is needed anywhere in the programme, and most people who come have never called themselves artists. What you make does not go home with you that evening. It stays in the house for the rest of the programme, so the rooms hold more work every day, until the Open House on 27 August when it all hangs together. Didgeridoo Festival — FATT 2026 returns August 27–30 for its 17th edition From August 27 to 30, 2026, Ribeira do Ruivo, in São Teotónio, Odemira, will once again host the Didgeridoo Festival — FATT 2026, an event dedicated to music, nature, art, sharing, and community life. In its 17th edition, FATT will once again bring together artists, participants, families, musicians, artisans, and lovers of alternative culture for four days of concerts, workshops, lectures, jam sessions, activities, and moments of connection with nature. More than just a festival, FATT is an experience of coming together and slowing down, where the audience is invited to dance, learn, share, and experience the true community spirit that has defined this event since its inception. In 2026, for the first time in the festival’s history, FATT will also feature afternoon concerts, expanding the musical lineup and creating new moments of celebration throughout the day. Since August 15th, artists, musicians, healers and holistic practitioners have been gathering at the Art Space Hotel in Odemira for the pilot edition of the Art Space Residency. What began as an empty space has slowly transformed into a living space filled with art, memories, music, connection and love. Together, we created an altar, a collective painting, the womb of the space, and planted seeds that are now blossoming through gatherings, songs, dances, photography and countless creative expressions. We have explored beauty, connection and the deeper essence of what it means to create together. And now, the journey continues. ✨ On August 27th, we open the doors to the Open Art Space. Throughout the month of August, the “Noites no Largo” initiative presents the play “A Bilha Quebrada,” performed by Baal17—the Baixo Alentejo Educational Theater Company—which will tour various locations in the municipality between August 13 and 30 at 9:30 p.m., in Alvalade, Costa de Santo André, Cercal do Alentejo, Vale de Água, Cruz de João Mendes, Abela, Santiago do Cacém, Ermidas-Sado, Santa Cruz, Vila Nova de Santo André, São Domingos, and São Bartolomeu da Serra. The Santiago do Cacém City Council, with the support of the parish councils, aims through this touring initiative to provide the public with free street theater performances, as part of a clear commitment to cultural decentralization. “Mother Stone”: A Workshop to Listen to the Land Through Memories On September 3, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Espaço + Gallery in Aljezur will host the writing and reading workshop “Pedra-Mãe,” part of the “Arte Dentro” initiative promoted by the Municipality of Aljezur. The workshop invites participants to explore, through writing and sharing, the relationship between memory, territory, and identity, using stone as a starting point and a meeting place. Drawing on images from the film *À Procura da Melodia*, the workshop offers an exercise in actively listening to memories and stories—both individual and collective. Participants will be invited to write about the places they inhabit, traverse, and recognize as their own, reflecting on how these spaces are woven into their stories and, at the same time, become part of the memory of those very places. The stone—an element deeply connected to the landscape of Aljezur and the cliffs that line the coast—serves as both a metaphor and the material foundation of this experience: a presence that endures, bears marks and stories, and, over time, transforms itself and those who inhabit and observe it. “Pedra-Mãe” is based on the idea that memories can find ways to endure beyond those who experienced them. Through words, images, sounds, and silences, the workshop aims to create a space for connection where every story can be told, heard, and returned to the community. The work developed throughout the session will also give rise to a collective fanzine, compiled from the materials produced by the participants—texts, drawings, notes, and audio recordings. The publication will later be printed, allowing each participant to take home a copy of this collective record of memories and experiences. Participation is free, but registration is required by August 26 at cultura@cm-aljezur.pt. The workshop is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.

Here in the Alentejo, some of the sheep’s wool also ends up in the trash. Over the past 15 years, Karmit has been learning and sharing this ancestral knowledge about wool. “For me, wool is a way to awaken, remember, and connect.” You’re invited to join us and, together, preserve these precious fibers. Karmit will be here for two sessions, during which we’ll learn: *the process of cleaning raw sheep’s wool *processing and carding the wool. *spinning with a spindle and spinning wheel. Pilgrimage of Nossa Senhora da Cola | The Best Summer Festival Organized by the Santa Casa Misericórdia de Ourique, the Pilgrimage of Nossa Senhora da Cola is back. We’re just over two weeks away from the best summer festival. As usual, the pilgrimage will take place on September 7 and 8 (a municipal holiday) at the Sanctuary of Cola, in the municipality of Ourique. Hundreds of pilgrims and visitors are expected, drawn by their devotion and, at the same time, by the excitement of two days of festivities. On September 7 and 8, the devout and the curious alike will relive the spirit of this celebration. Straddling the line between the sacred and the profane, some fulfill vows and pray, while others sing, laugh, and toast in honor of Our Lady of Cola, celebrating the most authentic tradition of the municipality of Ourique. On the evening of the 7th, at 8:00 p.m., there will be a dance featuring Emanuel and Tânia. Mário Pica. Then, at 11:00 p.m., get ready for the concert featuring Chave D’Ouro. On the 8th, at 11:00 a.m., a solemn Mass will be held in honor of Nossa Senhora da Cola. An hour later (at 12:00 p.m.), the procession, accompanied by the Ourique Choral Group, will take to the streets once again. One of the new features of this year’s festival begins at 2:00 p.m., with a performance by the Ourique Choral Group and the Ourique Municipality Children’s Choral Group, bringing together different generations of the municipality’s choral tradition on stage. The Mira River is alive and runs through us. The invitation for our time together is to trace the Mira River following the river's songlines from the estuary in Vila Nova de Milfontes, through flood plain, to wetland and marshes, to the town of Odemira. Thinking about and with water and their many forms of agency, in the third edition of FULGORES DO RIO we will meet the waters of the Loire, the Danube, the Guadiana, the Euphrates, the Tigris, and the Douro. The screenings will be preceded by a convivial dinner, which requires reservation. To the serpentine, subterranean and sidereal rivers! "River run, river flow, river fall, river run."
