The photography exhibition "April 25, 1974, Thursday"
The Sines Arts Center will open the photography exhibition "April 25, 1974, Thursday" by Alfredo Cunha on Saturday, April 11, at 4:00 p.m. ℹ Due to the photographer’s unavailability for health reasons, this will not be the usual opening ceremony. Later, during the exhibition period, there will be a guided tour led by Alfredo Cunha, to which we hope everyone will attend. This exhibition brings together photographs that capture key moments of a long journey marked by a commitment to light, to history, and to the protagonists of an irreplaceable era in Portuguese collective life. Alfredo Cunha’s images preserve the memory of Salgueiro Maia and evoke the spirit of April 25. Part of the celebrations marking the 52nd anniversary of April 25 in Sines. Supported by the Portuguese Society of Authors

Launch of the “Books on the Loose: Read Anywhere” project
Sines Arts Center | 2:30 p.m. An initiative that invites the community to discover the joy of reading everywhere. By reusing books from donations and duplicates from the library’s collection, small reading stations will be set up in strategic, high-traffic locations, making reading accessible in public and social spaces. Each participating location will receive a small bookshelf bearing the Library’s logo and a selection of books chosen by the Library. Users will be free to take the books without needing to return them, promoting the sharing and spontaneous circulation of reading within the community. More than just making books available, this project aims to create unexpected encounters with reading during breaks, at cafés, during workouts, while waiting, and in moments of rest, making reading a natural habit that is close at hand and accessible to everyone.

“Inside, it’s always April”
🌹 On April 25, Teatro do Mar presents “Inside, It’s Always April,” a traveling performance installation that invites audiences to an intimate listening experience in the heart of a public space. Inside small boxes, each person is invited to enter, sit down, and, alone with a performer, share the listening experience of a poem. Drawing on the distinctive voices of Portuguese poetry, this project evokes the ideals of April—freedom, dignity, and responsibility—as something alive, present, and constantly evolving, connecting the intimate with the collective. In the morning, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., the event takes place outside the Sines Arts Center. In the afternoon, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, the event begins at the Jardim das Descobertas, then proceeds to Rua Serpa Pinto, following a route that traverses the city and its encounters.

Special concert by the Locomotiva Orchestra at Sines Castle
🎼 The Alentejo Litoral School of Arts celebrates its 18th anniversary on April 25 at 6:00 p.m. with a special concert at Sines Castle by the Locomotiva Symphony Orchestra, a project that brings together students from various schools in the region for a collective and inclusive musical performance.
