    Cinema Nativa Presents: "Occupied Territories"

Cinema nativa presents: "Occupied Territories" (2022) We bring you a documentary that is also an exercise in collective memory. "Occupied Territories" is the story of dispossession as told by the people of the Caramulo mountains. The people speak of their lives following the violent occupation and afforestation of their communal lands by the state in 1941. They speak of poverty and emigration, of the ruptures and wounds inflicted by the violent course of history, and recount their resistance to this expropriation. They also retain memories of a time when communities were built upon a collective understanding of the territory that surrounded them. A film by José Vieira. 🎥 doc, 76 min | narrated in Portuguese, subtitled in English | 📅 Sept. 24, 2026 — 6:30 p.m. Join us to watch, listen, and remember

As summer draws to a close, we continue to envision concrete utopias and speculative fantasies, and to reflect on the ways cinema might contribute to their realization. Under the motto “The Earth Needs More Magicians”—the guiding principle behind all of Ben Rivers’ cinematic work—Cinema Fulgor presents the director’s latest film, *mare’s nest*, alongside the subversive wonder of Beatrice Gibson’s *leisure, utopic*. Here are two films in which children’s explorations show us possible paths to navigate through the darkness. 🔥 Thursday, July 23, 9:30 p.m. 🔥 Cultivamos Cultura, São Luís

At 7:30 p.m., we’ll be at Largo do Mercado with snacks and conversation. As part of the Graduate Program in Investigative Journalism at the University of Coimbra, Lena Hertel and Nina van Dijk have spent the last few months conducting an investigation into mega solar power plants in Portugal. By exploring issues such as deforestation driven by large-scale solar projects, the installation of solar panels in nature reserves, and the legal frameworks that favor large companies in the sector, they seek to critically reflect on the environmental and social impacts of solar energy in Portugal and identify alternative models. Lena Hertel is a young Portuguese-German woman who grew up in the Alentejo region and has been grappling with climate change and social injustices since childhood. Nina van Dijk was born in Coimbra, in the land of the Gândaras, but soon moved to the valleys and hills of Odemira, where she discovered journalism while working with a local radio station. At 9:00 p.m., we’ll begin the film screening. Synopsis “Since time immemorial, the Solé family has spent their summers picking peaches in their orchard in Alcarràs, a small town in Spain. But after receiving an eviction notice, this year’s harvest may be their last. New plans for the land call for uprooting the peach trees and installing solar panels, causing a rift within the family, which had been very close until then. For the first time, the Solés face an uncertain future and risk losing more than just their home."

One Million Steps / Eva Stotz screening + discussion Synopsis: "A tap dancer performs while, elsewhere, people flee from tear gas fired by the police. Two distant worlds—until an unexpected opening tears open in the ground, right in front of the dancer. She jumps. And lands in the heart of the social protests in Istanbul. There, amid voices, smoke, and resistance, the dancer witnesses the struggle for individual freedom and for dignified living spaces. Her moving body then becomes more than dance: it transforms into a political gesture, an act of solidarity, a shared rhythm of resistance." In these times when we feel reality unraveling before our eyes—amid wars, police violence, the rise of the far right, isolation, and fear—we ask ourselves: what can a body do? What can art do? How do we continue to move with one another? We invite you to come watch this film with us, and afterward, we’ll make space to share thoughts, doubts, feelings, and questions. More than just a screening, we want a gathering. See you soon!

From this network emerges the “Genuine Clandestine” campaign, with women and men from all over Italy joining together in new forms of agricultural resistance. Through the work, experiences, and voices of these “underground” farmers, insu^tv chronicles this campaign—simple in its message but resolute in its methods—alongside the implications for food democracy, economic development, environmental protection, and access to land. Cinema Nativa: Doc "The Green Vein"

World Food Day, Let's go from local to global with desires, dreams and practices that contribute to a world where those who produce, taking care of the common good, can live with dignity, live well... and that food is tasty, nutritious and available to those who seek it! André Vizinho and Jorge Gonçalves show the results of the first phase of data collection, the result of this initial phase of SAL Odemira (Local Food System). Visit the website at https://www.salodemira.pt At 7pm, director Sara de Sousa Correia presents the film "A Veia Verde: West Africa's agro-ecological renaissance". Synopsis of the documentary: "For centuries, the great empires of West Africa were nourished by rivers like the Volta or the Niger - their blue veins. Today, after centuries of colonization, food resilience on the banks of these rivers is more fragile than ever, with endogenous culture being lost to an increasingly urban and violently industrialized transitional society. Farmers poisoned by pesticides are a constant in Burkina Faso, triggering the search for alternatives that are sought by partnerships between scientists and peasants. Nigeria tells us how far this boat can sink through the voice of Dr. Beatrice, but it is on the edge of Niger, in Mali, that we find a first answer. "My first contact with agriculture was through the internet," says Ousmane, a former footballer who has swapped soccer pitches for other fields. "This is the moment of the African Renaissance," argues Godfrey Namudjo, founder of Songhai, an agro-ecological training center with a global reputation. Students and researchers are seeking to valorize endogenous culture and recover local food sovereignty. On the urban outskirts, children are learning to plant. Members of the Rastafarian community devotionally feel the call to care for the health of the land and people. A stream of consciousness, ideas and initiatives flows and grows across West Africa like a powerful green vein fertilizing the earth." At the end of the time we will have time for a chat with the director. Dinner will be available, with vegetarian and animal protein options.
