Following two projects carried out in this area—*Vaga* (2024) and *Varela* (2025)—*Valdemar* stems from a desire to deepen the relationship that has developed over time between artists and residents, exploring the village as a living territory, a space of memory, encounter, and transformation. If *Vaga* was a first encounter with the sea and its practices, and *Varela* a deep dive into the land, the homes, and the intimacy of the village, *Valdemar* emerges as a new movement within this balance between sea and land. The works created at Azenha do Mar have followed the rhythm of the tides: they reach out toward the outside, return to the interior, and once again open up to the ocean. “Valdemar” offers a time for presence, listening, and co-creation, in which art is built from the lives, gestures, and stories of those who inhabit this unique place on the coast of Odemira.

    Be part of a new choir in ALENTEJO! ⠀ Imagine a choir combining festival vibes, parties and electronic music, performing right on the dance floor. ⠀ The body isn’t fully singing until the voice joins in. Floor Chor wants to encourage you to free your voice, not think too much about how it sounds, but really focus on how it feels. ⠀ This October, we’re planting the first seeds of Floor Chor Alentejo. ⠀ We will have 5 rehearsals where we sing, dance, improvise and build a repertoire together. Afterwards, we’ll throw a party, invite our friends and perform what we have learned. ⠀ But the vision goes beyond these first rehearsals. We want to keep coming together for intensive choir weeks and retreats, deepen our repertoire, build a community and then take the choir to parties, festivals and Burns around Portugal. Flamingo, Goat Festival... anything is possible. ⠀ And this isn’t completely new. Floor Chor started in Cologne, Germany, where we are now around 100 singers and have performed at festivals and clubs across Germany. There is something about the combination of community, music and the sound of voices coming together in harmony that really touches me. i come into flow when i do it. ⠀ An important part of my rehearsals is body awareness, exploring the flexibility of our voices, but also self acceptance. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about enjoying the process, being curious about what our voices can do and experiencing the bliss of hearing what we can create together. ⠀ I truly believe that singing is medicine and that singing in a choir can teach us something about how we come together as human beings: in collaboration, peace and harmony.
