Courage doesn't always make a lot of noise. Sometimes it’s just opening a door, stepping into an unfamiliar home, trying something for the first time, or sitting down at a table with people from other parts of the world.

On this Open Day for the Planet, Casa Novo Bowing invitesus to wander through its rooms and halls transformed by the energy of Summer Bowing, a week of creation, community, and experimentation that brought together young people from different cultures, languages, and life paths.

There’s a radio show to listen to, used clothes transformed into new possibilities for wearing, worlds of clay to discover, fanzines to leaf through, images from a film created in just one week, sound installations to listen to while lying down, and juices prepared on the spot. Experiences created by young people who open the doors of the House and invite us to see the world through their eyes.

Courage can also be savored. Over the weekend, you’ll learn to prepare Cachupa and Cape Verdean Fish Pastries, and in the late afternoon, dishes, music, and dances are shared to the sound of African Sounds led by Licínio Silva.

Amid stories that unfold, voices that are heard, and encounters that take place, this is a day to discover how courage can be a daily practice of imagination, hospitality, and communal living.

Casa Novo Bowing - Center for Planetary Relations is a space for shelter, creation, and gathering, open to everyone. Created as part of the Novo Bowing project, it is based in Odemira, in the former Student Center, and hosts artistic activities that promote dialogue between cultures and the imagination of new ways of living together.

SUMMER AT HOME

Summer Bowing has filled Casa Novo Bowing with ideas, experiences, and collective creation. Now it’s time to open the doors.

Guided by young people from all over the world, visitors will be able to explore the different spaces of the House and discover radio programs, worlds made of clay, reused and transformed clothing, fanzines, moving images, freshly prepared drinks, and many other experiences created throughout the week.

After days of work, imagination, and sharing, the House invites us to experience the summer that comes alive when a house becomes a gathering place.

Summer Bowing was coordinated by the core team of the New Bowing project, along with Akshita, Albina Petrolati, Catarina Inácio, Gonçalo Viana, Kali Fawaz, Lúcia Costa, Manuel Ruiz, Marta Coutinho, Maya Kempe, Mica Fingas, Paula Lourenço, Rekha D. C., Rita Moreira, and Simi Kaur.

RR25 - SOUND INSTALLATION

Paula Lourenço’s street wardrobes now lie flat on their sides. The audience lies down to listen to what the clothes have to say.

A skirt, a work shirt, or a jacket hold different stories. Through interviews with residents of Odemira, this sound installation reveals memories, secrets, and fragments of life hidden in the folds of what we wear.

    Sattva Yoga +60

Sattva Yoga Portugal offers classes for seniors at Casa Novo Bowing in Odemira. Based on the ancient Himalayan tradition, Sattva Yoga offers an integrative and holistic approach. In addition to physical postures—with options tailored to each individual’s needs—this practice places great emphasis on Pranayama and Kriyas (breathing exercises and techniques that combine repetitive movements with breathing and mantras). In some classes, time will also be devoted to sound therapy using various musical instruments (Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, flutes, etc.), whose vibrations promote immediate relaxation—both physical and mental. Some classes will be gentler and more meditative, while others will be more energetic, with opportunities for group activities and even dance. Each class is a unique experience. The goal is always the same: to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
